Your Jellyfin or Emby library
A media server at home is the opposite of a subscription: the films are yours, the server is yours, and nothing about them should leave the house. What is usually missing is a player that treats that library the way it treats anything else — posters, seasons in order, and the thing you stopped half-way through waiting where you left it. Tivsy reads a Jellyfin or Emby server directly, on your own network, with no account of ours in between.
Find your server's address
It is the address you use in a browser, without the web page on the end. Jellyfin usually answers on port 8096 — something like 192.168.1.50:8096 — and Emby on 8096 as well. If you copied it out of a browser and it ends in /web/index.html, that part is not needed; Tivsy trims it either way.
Add it in the app
Settings, then Add, then Media Server. Enter the address, your server username and your password. The server is identified before your password goes anywhere, so a mistyped address fails as a mistyped address rather than as a login problem you would go hunting for.
What arrives
Films and episodes, with their posters, plots, genres, years and ratings. Episodes keep their show name and their season and episode numbers, so a series is a series rather than a flat list of similar-looking rows. From there it behaves like the rest of the library: search finds it, favourites hold it, and resume remembers where you stopped.
It plays without transcoding
Tivsy asks the server for the original file rather than a converted one, because it carries two playback engines and can decode almost anything a server would otherwise spend its evening re-encoding. On a small box under a television that is the difference between a film that plays and a fan that never stops.
Common questions
Does Plex work?
No, and the app no longer claims it does. Plex uses a different account model and a different API from Jellyfin and Emby, and supporting it properly is separate work rather than a variation of this. Saying otherwise was a mistake this version corrects.
Does anything reach the internet?
Only what you point it at. If your server is on your own network, the connection stays on your own network. There is no Tivsy account and no Tivsy server, so there is nowhere for your library or your password to be sent.
Can I use a server and an IPTV subscription at once?
Yes — they are separate sources and one is shown at a time. Switching between them is a tap, and each keeps its own favourites and positions.
Will it work from outside the house?
If your server is reachable from outside, yes: the address is the address. If it is only on your home network, it will only work at home — that is your server's setting, not the player's.
